Nathan Wonder

Prior to joining EY Port Jackson Partners, Nathan was Senior Economic Adviser to the Commonwealth Treasurer with lead responsibility for economic and budget strategy where he had a central role in developing the Government’s economic response to COVID-19. He has a strong understanding of government decision-making processes having advised on Commonwealth budgets and reform priorities focusing on infrastructure, agriculture, industry and energy markets. 

Nathan brings his diverse professional experiences to bear on projects, leveraging strong qualitative and quantitative skills to find sustainable solutions to complex problems.

Help description
  • Developed an organisational strategy to assist a Commonwealth health agency prepare for a change in its mandate. The project assessed how the agency was placed to meet its current and expected future functions and recommended changes across its operating model necessary to perform its role properly
  • Led analysis on the NDIS provider market to assess key trends in service delivery, competitive dynamics and financial viability to identify areas where efficiency gains or service enhancements could be achieved. This involved a deep dive into the composition of services offered, geographic coverage and pricing models of providers
  • Developed an outcomes and performance framework for national skills reform for a Commonwealth Department. The project included the development of indicators and targets to measure the extent that interventions were driving intended outcomes and a negotiation strategy for their implementation 
  • Strategic review on balance sheet management for a State Government. The project included detailed economic modelling and analysis of the State’s assets and liabilities to identify fiscal risks to the State
  • Commercial advice for a State Government’s energy transition plans developing policy actions to mitigate commercial, energy market and regulatory risks to the State
